Why should I take music lessons at YPAC?
YPAC is the best place in Kendall County to learn music! We have highly qualified teachers who train students based on their needs. At YPAC, we understand not every student learns the same, so lesson plans are curated to make learning fun and effective. Instead of always using the basic curriculum books that some students find boring and tedious, we figure out what gets a student interested in music!
YPAC also offers community and performing opportunities to music students! Students can join a Rock & Grow band, audition for Gig Out & Grow, and/or join our YPACappella group where they can become friends with fellow musicians. Students in these groups get to perform to the community at real venues! YPAC’s music students have performed at Southbank Original Barbeque in Yorkville, EvenFlow Music & Spirits in Geneva, Pollyanna Brewing Company in St. Charles, and more!
Our instructors also must exemplify our 12 Core Values. We teach with support, encouragement, and constructive criticism to build up our musician’s skill and confidence, not tear them down with shame and ridicule. YPAC’s teachers have also taken CPR training and Darkness to Light training to ensure all our students are safe. Finally, YPAC is strict with parents, students, and the entire YPAC community to make sure no one is creating a toxic environment for our students. Overall, at YPAC students will thrive in their technique, in their character, and in their mental and physical health.
How do I get started?
Get started by filling out this form or texting us at (815) 916-6285 to schedule a trial lesson! We have a $20 drop-in fee for each trial lesson.
What should a student bring to class?
Students should bring a notebook and writing utensil to class. Voice students are encouraged to bring a water bottle. Students with instruments that are easy to transport (guitar, ukulele, bass guitar) should bring their instrument. Trial students are not expected to bring their own instrument if they have not bought one.
Do I need to bring my own instrument to class?
Students with instruments that are easy to transport (guitar, ukulele, bass guitar) should bring their instrument. Trial students are not expected to bring their own instrument if they have not bought one.
Can you help me choose which instrument/equipment/learning materials to buy?
Of course! YPAC has the best customer service and our music instructors will be happy to help you choose the best option(s).
Can I watch my child while he/she is in class?
YPAC has a closed lobby to protect the safety of students. Each parent/guardian can watch their student via Zoom while in their car or elsewhere. Parents/Guardians of trial students are allowed to be in the lobby, but for future classes we ask parents/guardians to remain outside the building during class. If a parent/guardian wishes to be in the lobby during class, they may sign up to be a volunteer where they will receive a background check to ensure the safety of our students. Parents/Guardians are not guaranteed a spot on our volunteer team. We also have two PEP Weeks during the year where parents can join the last 10 minutes of class to see what their students have been learning!
Do you offer lessons to adults?
Yes! YPAC offers private lessons for all ages 4 and up, which includes adults! Any adult who wants to learn an instrument or take voice lessons can take a private lesson at YPAC.
Are there performance opportunities for my child?
YPAC is the best place for young musicians to grow because we have so many performance opportunities for young musicians!
YPAC hosts two music recitals for all our private music lesson students. In the winter we have our Holiday Music Show where students perform holiday favorites (if they choose) for friends and family. Then, we have our Spring Music Show where students perform a song of their choice for friends and family.
For more performance opportunities, students can join a Rock & Grow Band where they rehearse together and then perform their setlist in the community around once per month! YPAC’s band students have performed at Southbank Original Barbeque in Yorkville, EvenFlow Music & Spirits in Geneva, Pollyanna Brewing Company in St. Charles, and more!
Our dedicated vocal students can join Gig Out & Grow or Grow 2 Gig. In the spring voice students are recommended by their voice teachers to audition for the group. Students will not only perform solos, but also duets and trios with other vocalists. Students in the group are required to participate in rehearsals outside of their private lessons and perform at gigs. Gig Out & Grow is our higher commitment group, while Grow 2 Gig is lower commitment with less rehearsals and performances.
What instruments does YPAC teach?
YPAC teaches a variety of instruments! YPAC currently teaches piano lessons, voice lessons, guitar lessons, bass guitar lessons, ukulele lessons, and drum lessons.
Should I join a Rock & Grow band?
Joining a band at YPAC is one of the best ways to meet fellow musicians and make friends! If you are unsure about joining a band, ask your private music lesson teacher, they will be happy to give you a recommendation. However, we encourage all musicians to join a band at some point because it teaches students how to collaborate with other musicians and perform to different audiences. Being in a band also helps students build confidence on stage! Some students may find it difficult to perform alone at our recitals, but being in a band gives them more support on stage.
Are Rock & Grow shows ticketed?
Usually not! Another great thing about being in a Rock & Grow Band is that most (if not all) of their performances are free to watch!
How can I be a part of Gig Out & Grow?
Students who want to join Gig Out & Grow should mention to their private voice teacher their interest!
Can I use your music studio to record?
Yes! YPAC is one of the best places in Yorkville to record your song/voice-over/etc! Adults can text us at (815) 916-6285 and rent our recording studio and get assistance from our team. For children ages 8-18 who want to learn how to do professional recordings and make their own songs, we recommend taking our Music Production class.
